Ranchera Queen Aida Cuevas returns to her Soraya familia
September 15 marked the first day of National Hispanic Heritage month — 31 days of celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans who are from, or who descend from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Did you know that the San Fernando Valley also has a unique connection to Hispanic Heritage? About 43% of the region’s makeup are Latino, according to the LA Times’ Mapping L.A. project.
Knowing this, and that CSU Northridge has a unique and robust Chicana and Chicano Studies program, The Soraya has worked for many years to recognize the diverse communities around us.
While our diverse offerings go well beyond the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month (Oct. 15), our Aida Cuevas concert on Oct. 1 first falls right within this important month — and who better to celebrate with than the Queen of Ranchera music?
In her sixth performance with The Soraya since 2016, Aida Cuevas will present “Yo Creo Que Es Tiempo,” an unforgettable and emotional concert commemorating her 45th anniversary as una artista Mexicana, a Mexican artist so well known for her immense talent that she’s said to be Mexico’s most important female voice.
In 2018, Aida became the first-ever female singer in the mariachi genre to win a GRAMMY ® when she was honored with “Best Regional Mexican Music Album” for her album Arrieros Somos (Sesiones Acústicas).
The Soraya is proud to be a favorite venue of Aida’s, and for her continued support of the arts through our programs—most recently in our October 2021 Linda Ronstadt tribute.
Aida’s October concert at The Soraya marks the first of nine impeccable performances in our Hecho en Las Américas Series—dedicated to the diverse music and dance forms of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the communities all around CSU Northridge and The Soraya.
Accompanied by Mariachi Aztlán, Aída Cuevas performs Saturday, Oct 1 at 8pm.
