Former CSUN President (2000-2011) Dr. Jolene Koester provided the campus and greater Los Angeles an extraordinary legacy – a performance hall that measures up to any in the world.  She is credited for bringing the vision of The Soraya to life and for bringing along countless supporters to follow her lead.  Among the many she inspired was former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky who is well known as a great champion for the arts, one of the public leaders responsible for the construction of Walt Disney Concert Hall, among other notable accomplishments.  While Yaroslavsky and Koester are two among many who made The Soraya possible, their leadership is credited as being transformational.  They will come together again, ten years after the Opening, to reflect on the pivotal moments that made history in Los Angeles.

This exclusive Behind the Screens event will be co-hosted by current CSUN President Dr. Erika Beck and Soraya Executive and Artistic Director Thor Steingraber.  Koester and Yaroslavsky have chosen the following musical interludes to be performed by Van Cliburn silver medalist Joyce Yang, and CSUN faculty instrumentalists Lorenz Gamma, violin, and Dmitry Rachmanov, piano.
